Ambassador Ramesh Chander (December 8, 1950) is a retired career diplomat belonging to the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Prior to his retirement in December 2010 as Ambassador of India to Belarus, he held important positions as the Consul General of India in Edinburgh (Scotland) in UK, Minister of the Embassy of India in Prague (Czech Republic), Counsellor, Embassy of India, Tokyo (Japan) and also served on different diplomatic posts at Indian Diplomatic Missions in Asia, Africa and Europe. He also held the coveted posts of the Director of Central Asia Division, Under Secretary of East Europe Division and Protocol Officer in the Government Hospitality Organisation (attached to the Prime Minister's Office) of the Protocol Division of the Ministry of External Affairs. Vinod Kumar joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1983, after briefly working in the State Bank of India. He has served as Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan and Permanent Representative of India to SCO RATS, and as Ambassador to Fiji and four other Pacific Island countries. In his other diplomatic assignments, he has served in the Soviet Union, Russia Thailand, Bhutan, Australia. At the headquarters he has served as Director in the Division dealing with South East Asia and Oceania, among others. He has headed the Public Diplomacy and Multilateral Economic Relations Divisions in the Ministry of External Affairs, and served as Additional Secretary (International Organisations) dealing with UN, counter terrorism, and cyber security.
